A new committee will be formed to look at the Humboldt County rail line — but it will not be called a “railbanking” committee.

The North Coast Railroad Authority Board of Directors unanimously passed a motion this afternoon to form a Humboldt Bay Rail Corridor Committee.

The new committee will evaluate creation of trails, restoration of the rail prism and restoration of rail service consistent with the NCRA Trail Policy.

The board did not exclude the idea of railbanking but left this option up for discussion by the future committee.
